If you want to know more about Da Nang and its history, then go to a local history museum. It is not as popular among tourists as the Museum of Cham Sculpture or the Zone 5 Military Museum. It is actually extremely unjust and should not be left like this.
The streets of modern Da Nang have nothing that would recall their centuries-old history. However, the museum is home to more than 2500 various artifacts: old items, archeological finds, photos that tell about the origins, development, important events and specific features of the Vietnamese city. All the exhibits are accompanied by detailed descriptions in English.
The Da Nang Museum was founded in 1989. In 2011, it was moved to the center of the city. Since then, that cultural establishment has taken a three-story construction built near the remains of a dilapidated French castle of the 19th century. There you will find two old cannons attributed to the same time.
The exhibition, which occupies an area of more than 3000 square meters, is divided into different historical periods, beginning with the foundation of Da Nang to the present time. Walking in numerous halls will be interesting both to adults and to children. Adults will learn a lot about the city, children will be interested in bright exhibits in the forms of weapons, models, photos, etc.
On the first floor of the museum, there are collections dedicated to the nature of Da Nang, traditional agriculture and fishing. Samples of minerals and archaeological finds are represented on the displays, and the city photographs made before 1975 hang on the walls. Moreover, in this place, you can learn what was in the place of Da Nang in the prehistoric period.
The second floor of the museum is dedicated to the heroism and dedication of the city and its residents during the battle between Vietnam and France for Vietnam independence during the 19th-20th centuries and during the war against the USA in 1955-1975.
The third floor of the museum houses a collection of cultural and ethnic artifacts of Da Nang like traditional tools, costumes, jewelry, handicrafts and folk musical instruments. Moreover, there is a cinema which can accommodate up to 30 people. Documentary films about the history, culture and public life of the city are shown there.
