In the old city of Hoi An, which turned into a unique open-air museum, there is something else to see, apart from the original architecture. In this place, there are several interesting museums, which help to better understand the value of this ancient port city.

The Hoi An Folklore Museum was opened not long ago – in 2005. It is a large and cozy space that is imbued with the spirit of local traditions. Among all the city museums it takes the biggest building which was not even built from the scratch. The exposition was placed in a restored two-story wooden building which was a residential building in the past. Its length is 57 meters and its width is 9 meters. The size is really impressive for an institution of this kind in Hoi An.

The Hoi An Folklore Museum brings its visitors to an absolutely astonishing world of local life and history. There are around 1000 rare artifacts, most of which are more than 2000 years old. They can be compared to grains of gold, which have kept valuable knowledge about the culture and creativity of Hoi An residents since time immemorial.

The entire first floor of the museum is dedicated to local performing art. From time to time, live performances of musicians, singers and dancers are organized there, as well as fascinating national games and bright creative festivals. Residents of Hoi An and tourists like to take part in such events, thanks to which the Hoi An Folklore Museum got its second, informal, name – Museum of Folklore.

The second floor covers an area of 369 square meters, divided into numerous exhibition halls. Each of them is dedicated to aspects and specific features of culture, creativity and everyday life of the citizens and residents of the nearest rural settlements. There are works of national art, clothes for any occasion, traditional jewelry, handicrafts, religious relics, items for everyday life... In short, this is the place where everything, that has been forming the national culture of the old city of Hoi An and what helped it to get to the UNESCO World Heritage List, is collected.
