Local legends say that long ago there were great and impregnable mountains on the territory of present Ha Long Bay. That was the place where a huge dragon lived hiding from people's eyes for a long time. One day, the dragon decided to abandon its shelter and soared into the sky. The heavy tail of the mythical animal hit the stone rocks and destroyed them, turning the dense mountain range into deep valleys and canyons. In the end, the dragon dived into the depths of the sea and disappeared. The water overflowed its banks and flooded the mountains.
For many thousands of years, locals passed this legend by word of mouth. They still believe that Ha Long Bay was made this way. Travelers, who annually come to this fairy-tale place for a paradisaical vacation, enthusiastically look around and admit that such stunning mountain and sea landscapes could not have been created without a miracle. The name of the bay speaks for itself: Ha Long means «descending dragon».
At the end of the previous century, a unique bay with all its incredible landscape and numerous mountain formations was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Just imagine a picturesque sea bay with an area of about 1550 square kilometers with more than 3000 different islands. The dimension is really impressive, and the beauty of the views takes the breath away!
The bay has long been famous as one of the most popular places for recreation and tourism in Vietnam. Part of travelers come there to lie on the sandy beaches, get a golden tan, enjoy the azure seawater and magnificent rock landscapes. Other travelers are not used to sitting still and go to explore tropical islands, high mountains and underground caves. Whatever format you choose, you'll love Ha Long Bay!
