There are many ancient attractions in Qarshi. But so far, not all of them have been restored for tourists to the same level of beauty and splendor as the Memorial of Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah.
Many travelers believe that it is the tomb of the famous commander. However, this is not so true. It is a unique cemetery for the nobles from the 10th to the 19th century. But, unfortunately, the names of most of them are still unknown.
The memorial is striking with its scale, beauty, and tranquility, which is replaced by a crowd flow on holidays. But if you choose an ordinary day for your visit, you can enjoy the peace and splendor of the ancient buildings of the 15th century in solitude.
You can get to the territory of the memorial by two entrances. The central gate is very beautiful: its blue mosaic shimmers in the sun and shines brighter than the bluest sky.
Inside, guests will find vaults with ancient burials; these richly decorated small structures seem to emphasize the high status of the buried people.
But the memorial’s main attraction is, of course, the tomb of Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah. According to the Muslim tradition, people are not allowed to wear shoes inside the mausoleum. And during prayer, it may not be possible for you to go inside to admire the magnificently painted dome because believers will occupy the entire building. Therefore, it is best to come here early in the morning, or late at night, to see the beautiful buildings and a terrific sunset.
There are two large artificial ponds by the mausoleum. According to a legend, after Jarrah’s relics were transported to their homeland and buried, two springs appeared from under the mausoleum. The water was recognized as sacred and is now used for ablutions.
There is also a very beautiful minaret with statues of storks on its roof. From a distance, it seems that these are real birds.
