In Uzbekistan, they honor their heroes: great warriors, saints, prophets, or poets. In Namangan, a beautiful complex is dedicated to Muvlon Buva, a famous poet who lived several centuries ago.

This architectural monument has long been a center of attraction for locals who like to spend time in a small park and mostly for tourists who want to learn the city’s history and take beautiful photos with the background of this famous Uzbekistan sight.

The Muvlon Buva complex was built in 1221 according to the Islamic calendar. If you convert it into a more familiar chronology, it was in 1806. It is the same date that is inscribed right above the entrance to this miniature mausoleum. At first, only a tomb was erected here over the poet’s grave, and then a small mosque was added, where memorial prayers are read.

The mosque is tiny, only seven by seven meters, but incredibly beautiful. If you look at it, you get the feeling that it is a prototype of the ideal architecture: strict lines, precise proportions, a small dome, a window with delicately carved gratings. The portal, a traditional decoration of all mosque entrances, slightly protrudes forward. It is decorated with two miniature turrets with ornamented spires, and if you look closely, you can see that the spires have a conical shape with steps, very unusual for this area.

The interiors of the mosque are no less remarkable than the exteriors. Light comes through the latticed window and the arcade under the dome and illuminates with beautiful glares the painted walls and ganch carvings, which are still very popular in Central Asia. The geometric patterns that make up the main decoration of the walls subtly intertwine with the Arabic script, citing the verses of famous poets.

There is a small park by the mosque. Both admirers of Muvlon Buva’s art come here, and ordinary citizens who want to spend time near a beautiful landmark.
