Margilan is a city that is rich in architectural sights and famous for its silk. Local artisans, trying to surpass the Chinese silk brought to the Fergana Valley, invented unique technologies for the production of the fabric.

The first silk products appeared in the Fergana Valley at the very beginning of our era. But at that time, luxurious dresses were sewn from the silk brought from China. Such production was costly. The wealthy people of Fergana liked beautiful dresses and shoes so much that they ordered their artisans to spy out the secrets of Chinese silk and establish their production flow to become the best in the world in this craft. It took artisans more than a dozen years: they tried different technologies, came up with new machines, selected dyes. As a result, Margilan hosted ateliers, glorifying the city as one of the largest silk industry centers in Uzbekistan and well beyond its borders.

Today, the ancient traditions are continued by the Yodgorlik Silk Factory, founded in 1972. The secrets of the old masters are well-preserved here, and most of the work is done by hand. Therefore, the fabric turns out to be truly unique, as it is very difficult to repeat the same pattern. More than 400 professionals work here, producing about 6 kilometers of the fabric monthly.

You can see how the artisans work during a guided tour of the factory. You can come here on any weekday. You will not see huge manufactories with soulless machines. People who work here create the fabric of incredible beauty using ancient technologies unparalleled anywhere else in the world.

There is a shop with souvenirs, clothes, and fabrics on the premises of the factory. Yes, the items are expensive. But remember that this is craftwork created by toilsome hand-labor and is of the highest quality.
