Bukhara has preserved a unique architectural complex that can rightly be called the prototype of modern shopping centers. These are the trading domes of Bukhara: a specially built complex of constructions, where the life of local and visiting merchants has been pulsating for many centuries.

Even scientists find it difficult to say how many domes there were initially. Only four trading domes have survived to this day.

Toqi Sarrofon is a dome that used to house one of the largest exchanges in Asia. Merchants who came to Bukhara from China, India and other countries changed money here. Today, you can buy local textiles of incredible beauty here.

Toqi Telpakfurushon is a dome that sells weapons and precious jewelry. Next to it, there is an old blacksmith shop, where knives are made using medieval technologies. You can not only watch the process but also buy the product you like. By the way, the dome used to have a different name – Kitabfurushon. And since «kitab» means a book in Uzbek, we can understand that it was a book market.

Tim Abdulla Khan is a unique dome. Unlike other trading domes, it is not located at the crossroads but along the road. This is a completely covered space where the temperature is always pleasant and cool. Besides, the lighting here is not as bright as in other trading halls. According to rumor, this dome was built to sell particularly expensive carpets that needed special storage conditions.

Finally, the very first of the domes built – Toqi Zargaron. Jewelers have worked here since its foundation. They didn`t only sell their luxury products but also created them in their workshops, which were located inside the dome. This tradition has survived to this day.
