You notice the rich historical heritage of the Turkish city Diyarbakır right when you enter the city. Just look at the walls which stand throughout the city. There are also some places which you, as a tourist, will have to find, and there is no doubt that your search will be awarded.
One of such places is hidden in the narrow lanes of Diyarbakır. It has been there for more than five hundred years. In the 16th century, caravans of traders, merchants and others came to the Hasan Paşa Hanı. There they did not only sell their goods but also met their old friends, discussed the latest rumors, drank coffee and ate Turkish food.
Not many things have changed since those times. One of the slight changes is that the caravanserai is now a hotel. The rest is the same. When you find that place, you may think that you were misled. But do not stand, come in. After passing several meters you hear hundreds of voices and feel the smell of thousands of dishes.
The Hasan Paşa Hanı is a stripped, black-and-white building, the main part of which is a spacious yard. By the way, such coloring was a feature of many caravanserais. On each side of the building, there is an entrance, but to get inside you need to pass a row of arches. You will definitely be impressed by the atmosphere. You will feel like you got to a huge market. Some people are trading, some are eating, the others are chatting at a table near a fountain.
Just like five hundred years ago, in the Hasan Paşa Hanı, you can buy Turkish goods of high quality, souvenirs, tableware, gold, carpets and eastern candies. People, who are aware of the place, come there for the food. Some street cafés and eateries on the territory of the caravanserai serve delicious dishes of Turkish cuisine. Locals especially appreciate breakfasts and cheese.
