One of the largest aquariums in the world, founded in Antalya, is only a few years old, but it has already won the hearts of hundreds of thousands of admirers of the underwater world and its amazing inhabitants. The aquarium was first opened in 2012 when all the guests were invited to take part in the exciting trip through the biggest underwater tunnel in the world with a length of 131 meters and a width of almost 3 meters. Not to mention 40 giant aquariums with luxurious decorations and the most advanced lighting.
The fifth-largest aquarium globally and the second in Europe, the Turkish Aquarium is located in the heart of Antalya just a few meters away from the scenic waterfront. The unique contemporary structure clad with undulating waves with an area of 15 thousand square meters includes three spacious floors with huge thematic aquariums, holding more than 10 thousand sea creatures. There is a charming garden with colorful vegetation around the fantastic building, full of exotic flowers and great sculptures. At the main entrance of the aquarium complex, there is a huge fountain made in the form of a large sperm whale jumping out of the water.
Each aquarium is akin to a piece of art. Someones are decorated with shipwrecks full of treasure, others – with sunk palaces and statues, there is even a huge wrecked plane. Explanatory signs set everywhere discover the world of creatures held captive by Poseidon, the Lord of the sea.
Bizarrely formed corals, dazzling clownfish, elegant seahorses, and clumsy octopuses, floating manta rays, and neon glowing jellyfish – all of them are so touching that even the smallest children gaze with delight in absolute silence. However, it is not quiet everywhere in the aquarium. Children and adult screams are heard in the section with piranhas, morays, and sharks. How could it be otherwise, since the most fearsome predators in the world pass by, demonstrating their main weapon – the rows of sharp white teeth. And a special pleasure is to catch the shark and other animals' feeding times when you can take part in it.
