The idea to create a cableway in Alanya was born many years ago, however, it was only possible to transform the vision of a modern cable car into reality in 2017. Even though it only has two stations, its popularity has surpassed all expectations. First of all, it provides a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the sea and mountain landscapes of Alanya simultaneously. Second of all, its two stations are located near the most important tourist attractions.
The lower station is located in the city centre right next to Damlatas Cave and the picturesque Kleopatra Beach, whereas the upper one is situated in the heart of Alanya’s Old Town, practically at the entrance of an ancient fortress. Previously, the citadel could only be accessed by one mountain road, always jammed with tourist busses and private cars. To explore its ruins, one had to endure horrible traffic under the burning sun. Thanks to the modern cableway, the journey to the fortress takes only 10 minutes during which tourists can enjoy the magical view of Alanya from a bird’s eye view. The lower station is named after Damlatas Cave, and the namesake of the upper one is Analya Castle (Alanya Kalesi).
Every 20 seconds, one of 14 modern cable cars, designed to fit 8 people, departs from one of the stations. All the cars move without stopping, they simply slow down when they reach the station with their doors opening automatically. The cars are equipped with comfortable benches, but curious travellers generally prefer to stand to fully appreciate the wonderful views. Alanya Cable Car can be regarded as a wonder of modern Turkish engineering. It was created using the latest technologies and functions all year under any weather conditions be it rain, snow or wind. It stays open until late, so all the wanders who lose track of time admiring ancient bastions and defensive walls can walk down to the beach using the footpath on the other side of the hill.
