The first settlements appeared on the territory of the modern state of East Timor about 60 thousand years ago. But it is considered young because locals gained their long-awaited independence only in 2002. For many years, these lands were under the Portuguese colonialists rule, and then joined the Republic of Indonesia and became its 27th province. As a result of the constant occupation and the continuous struggle for freedom, few historical and cultural monuments have survived. So, the main tourist attractions here are the picturesque corners of the island created by nature. They attract thousands of tourists who later decorate their photo albums with photos of the fantastic mountain sceneries and uplifting beauty of local beaches.
One of the fascinating and most popular beaches of the island among tourists to East Timor is a few minute drive from the capital and the largest city of Dili. It got the name One Dollar due to the enterprising locals who noticed the increasing popularity of the beach and set a token fee of a dollar for visiting. Nothing has changed since then. You still need to pay a dollar for the pleasure of being in this wonderful place. The beach is famous for its history far beyond the borders of the country.
Spacious, covered with white-snow sand and a long gentle slope to the clear sea, the beach became a favorite place for families. Along the coast, the bottom is dotted with fine sand, which is popular with kids. In the depths, travelers can see the colorful exotic world of the underwater kingdom. Beautiful coral reefs have turned this place into a center of attracting divers. The variety of bright tropical fish and amazing sea turtles can amaze even experienced ones. For those who do not want to dive, whales and dolphins regularly swim up to the coast putting on their enchanting show.
