Yonsei University is both the leading educational institution in South Korea and an important cultural landmark for K-pop fans. It is an alma mater for many well-known people, including Korean politicians, athletes and, most importantly, artists who became popular actors, singers and idols for modern youth.
Being founded in 1885, Yonsei is the oldest university in South Korea. Along with Seoul National University and Korea University, it is one of the three most prestigious institutions in the country where applicants from all over the world aspire to get.
Even if you are not planning to enter an international university and not an avid lover of K-pop, walk around the main campus of Yonsei will bring you plenty of pleasant emotions and impressions. While being here, any traveler can teleport from modern and noisy Seoul to ancient and leisurely Europe or America. Yonsei has a reputation as an Asian Harvard and earned it for its status and the solid Victorian-style buildings entwined with dense decorative ivy.
Yonsei territory is divided into three zones: Sinchon, Wonju, and the International Campus.
Sinchon is the main and busiest campus, closest to the city center. It occupies 400 acres and has a spacious dormitory for students in addition to educational buildings. Here you can also find the main university library, halls for sports, conferences, theatrical performances and concerts.
Wonju is a branch located in Gangwon Province. It is a secluded college campus covering 500 acres. Its main advantage is the quiet and picturesque landscapes around as well as the opportunity for students to gain new knowledge and carry out their researches in local laboratories.
The International Campus is another Yonsei branch located in the future smart city of Songdo, a two-hour drive from Seoul. It is the youngest campus of the institution, built for freshmen and foreigners.
