K-Star Road is an analog of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But instead of LA – Seoul, instead of pink named stars – cartoon figures with logos and drawings, instead of the world-famous actors and singers – K-pop stars. This place is not just a young and demanded tourist attraction but also a new symbol of the South Korean capital and modern local culture.
K-Star Road was created in about two years special for Hallyu fans and became an iconic place for them, all citizens and travelers in Seoul as well. Due to the restoration and new design, the boring and nondescript street changed to a fresh coat of paint. Not only youngsters but other age categories are now interested in K-pop culture.
K-Star Road is a whole tourist route that would immerse you in the modern South Korean culture and introduce you to the main stars: heroes of the music scene, television, cinema, etc.
Locals perceive their idols as unreal characters: they are that vivid and untouchable. Therefore, K-Star Road has the same catchy and cartoonish figures of Gangnam Doll to reflect them. The name of the alley characters appeared because of the wordplay which combined popular expressions: Gangnam-gu and K-Pop Idol.
The most noted Gangnam Doll on K-Star Road is a stylish three-meter figure opening the alley. It reminds many people of the singer PSY, the performer of the famous dance hit Gangnam Style. The rest of Gangnam Dolls represents other Korean wave artists with their unique and inimitable attributes. For example, you can find pop duo TVXQ, 2PM, CNBLUE, EXO, FTISLAND, SHINee and Super Junior boys bands, 4Minute, Girls' Generation and Miss A girls bands. These are the best-known K-pop artists far beyond their country.
In addition to the immersion in the K-pop world, a walk along K-Star Road can be the beginning of exploring the whole city. Some tourist routes begin from here and lead to other, equally famous sights of Seoul.
