The wild nature of South Korea is worth attention not less than its picturesque gardens and parks with beautiful mathematically precise designs. You will be amazed by the picturesque views of the mountain peaks of those places and satisfied by the convenience of the hiking trails and spacious viewing platforms. South Korea has many natural parks and reserves which can be called the best. Therefore, it would be a disappointing mistake if you don't travel around the country to enjoy the wildlife of Mudeungsan National Park.
The park is located several kilometers from the center of Gwangju. It was founded in 1972. At that time it was supposed to be a provincial natural park. However, after 40 years it took the 21st position in the list of the national parks of the country and got its official name in honor of its main height – Mudeungsan. Since then the huge territory of more than 75 square km has become not only home for rare wild birds and animals but also an international destination for fans of mountaineering and hiking. Three rocky mountain peaks which reach the height of 1187 meters and gentle slopes attract both experienced climbers and all those who want to test their courage and endurance.
According to locals, one of the peaks is sacred. It makes that picturesque place a cultural object. Moreover, Mudeungsan National Park houses several Buddhist temples: the splendid Wonhyosa Temple with a bronze dome of the 18th century, the oldest Jeungsimsa Temple with a statue of Buddha which dates back to the reign of one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea – Silla, and the modest temple which is dedicated to a shaman.
The harmony of the wild nature with the beautiful monuments of the sacred architecture creates an atmosphere of peace and gives energy.
