It is hard to imagine a more balanced combination of Eastern traditions and Western technologies than that achieved by the enterprising inhabitants of one of the wealthiest countries in the world, the homeland of the largest oil and gas fields, the gem of the East and the treasury of Arab culture, Qatar. Ancient half-ruined palaces and mosques coexist with modern glassy skyscrapers; multimillionaires sit in cozy family coffee houses with simple whitewashed walls and make pivotal decisions, staring at the screens of their MacBooks.

Snow-white men’s clothes against the background of the quicksand of the endless desert will dazzle your eyes more than the southern sun. You can’t help but noticing the whitened faces of women with black penciled eyes with everything else hidden from tourists’ eyes by long black dresses.

On the one hand, the capital of Qatar is a multifaceted prosperous megacity with unique architectural landmarks led by the Aspire Tower, an artificial island with luxury villas and apartments, and a charming promenade with fabulous fountains and statues. On the other hand, Doha cherishes the legacy of the past within the walls of its ancient stone forts, capacious museum halls, and, of course, in the main, timeless buildings: mosques and minarets. It is here on the walls of the leading Muslim shrines that you can see locals' love and respect for the religion. One is decorated with an original spiral minaret, another – with small ceramic tiles covered with pure gold. There is also a third one that has absorbed the artistry of masters of the past and became the embodiment of the traditional Arab style.

The Katara Mosque in Doha is considered the most beautiful mosque in the capital. It is located in the center of the Old Town within the premises of the Katara cultural village. This project of famous Turkish architects is a combination of different styles and elements of the best mosques of the world. All walls are covered with blue and purple hand-laid mosaics. Thanks to the color of the mosaic, it got its nickname, the Blue Mosque.
