Seberang Perai is a relatively small city. It mostly consists of little houses, garden squares, and parks. The locals prefer nature to skyscrapers and large industrial facilities. For sure, there are highrise buildings, but they are much fewer here than in the capital. You won’t call Seberang Perai the city of the future, but the title of one of Malaysia’s greenest and most natural areas suits it perfectly.

As soon as a Malaysian has a free minute, hour, or day, they go to water, namely, one of the largest and most beautiful dams in the area. Let’s follow them!

So, you get off the bus and completely forget that the vast lake in front of you is a man-made creation. Incredible Mengkuang Dam, the banks of which are lush with green trees, meadows, shingle beaches, has mountains with the tops hidden in the clouds as a background on its other side. A very picturesque destination!

As a matter of fact, this dam was built in 1985. According to the most conservative estimates, it contains up to 23.6 billion liters of water. Don’t even hope to enjoy the views alone: Mengkuang Dam is a favorite vacation spot for the locals. They calmly discuss their family affairs walking along the waterfront, have lunch on the lawn by the lake, fish, and boat. Besides, the dam is a great place to do sports. At first, it even seems that you are in a huge open-air gym. Particularly for fans of an active lifestyle, there are rubber-covered jogging tracks. Runners do not have to cruise around as the length of one route is 10 kilometers.

You can still find a secluded place if you go a little further. Sit down on the ground and enjoy the beauty of this man-made location. Come here in the evening when the sun starts to go down. Settling somewhere between amorous twosomes, you will have the opportunity to see one of the most beautiful sunsets in your life.
