During the Second World War, the city of Kota Kinabalu was 90% destroyed. No factories, parks, beautiful historical monuments, or residential areas could survive.
Therefore, despite the rather long history (people have lived in this place for a long time), we can say that Kota Kinabalu is a very young city. There are no colonial buildings or ancient monuments. But there are many modern, beautiful and comfortable places.
For example, wonderful Perdana Park – a recreational area where everything is thought out to the most seemingly insignificant details.
Perdana Park was opened in 2011. Surprisingly, all the work on the construction of a recreation area for citizens was sponsored by a private company, the director of which wanted his hometown to become more convenient, more comfortable and closer in terms of leisure to famous international capitals. And he did it.
Perdana Park turned out to be small, but very cozy and pleasant. The center of the park is a picturesque lake surrounded by a jogging track that is divided into two parts, one of which is safe to run barefoot. There are also bike paths; two large playgrounds for children and sports grounds for adults; small fountains with clean drinking water installed throughout the park. There are also several cafes and restaurants.
All this beauty is surrounded by the greenery of trees and shrubs, most of which are unique, as they grow only in this area.
In the evenings, the park turns into a favorite place for romantic couples. Every half hour starting from 21.00, the lake becomes a stage for a magical fifteen-minute performance: the fountain turns on and its «dance» is accompanied by music and a light show. There are 6 performances an evening in total. The repertoire changes every month. It can be both folk Malaysian songs and classical works of Mozart and Chopin. The magical effect is mesmerizing. Frankly speaking, it is the fountain that makes Perdana Park a favorite place for locals and tourists.
