Fuji-Hakone-Izu can be safely called the most famous nature reserve of the Land of the Rising Sun. This picturesque place has long been one of the main national symbols, which all Japanese and many travelers without exception dream of seeing with their own eyes.

Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park covers 1,227 square kilometers and is located in Kanagawa, Shizuoka, Tokyo, and Yamanashi Prefectures. It includes many natural and cultural attractions divided into four areas: Mount Fuji and its surroundings, Hakone area, the Izu Peninsula, and the islands located nearby.

The image of Mount Fuji with its snow-capped peak is familiar to almost everyone in the world. It is the highest mountain, or rather a stratovolcano of Japan, whose highest point reaches 3,776 meters above sea level. Since ancient times Fuji and its surroundings have been revered by locals for their beauty. The lava flows of the once active volcano (its last eruption was in 1708) formed a group of five magnificent mountain lakes: Kawaguchi, Motosu, Sai, Shoji, and Yamanaka. And to the northwest, the dense and mysterious forest of Aokigahara stretches at the foot of the volcano.

Hakone area is located in the heart of the nature reserve and provides easy access to other attractions. Due to the variety of mountain scenery that surrounds Hakone and its area, it is also called a volcano museum. Here you can relax on blue Lake Ashi and improve your health at the hot springs of the Owakudani Valley.

During the Edo period, the Izu Peninsula was a mining site for stonework used to build castles and fortresses. Today, it is one of the most popular resorts in the country. The Japanese are attracted to the local luxurious mountainous seascapes and Onsen thermal springs. Also in the vicinity of the peninsula, there is the deepest Suruga Bay, well known among fishermen and water sports athletes.

Outside the Izu Peninsula in the Pacific Ocean, there are at least 8 other volcanic islands that are part of the national park. They have become a popular diving destination.
