The international word «shopping» no longer requires translation and is used all over the world. There is hardly a person that does not like going shopping at all. Some people buy necessary things, some do it for pleasure, and for others, shopping is an art form, demanding time and inspiration. No matter what type of shopaholics tourists categorized themselves as, going on a trip to unfamiliar countries, they write visiting shopping centers and markets in their itinerary. At least, to buy some memorable souvenirs for friends and family. In Dubai, everyone goes to giant malls, in Cairo and Istanbul – to famous bazaars, but while traveling to numerous Indonesian islands, you should visit one of the most famous floating markets in the world, located in the largest city of Kalimantan – Banjarmasin.

In total, there are three floating markets in the city. The biggest is Lok Baintan, one of the main attractions of Banjarmasin. It is situated a 5-minute drive away from the luxurious Swiss-Belhotel Borneo Banjarmasin Hotel which offers a trip to the market as a separate excursion. Indeed, this little adventure can be called a real excursion.

The vast territory of the river is covered with Indonesian fishing boats – jakungs, floating next to each other. They are filled to the brim with wicker baskets of various goods. Exotic fruits and vegetables, outlandish fish and seafood, traditional sweets and drinks are just a small part of the whole variety of products. They amaze visitors with an unimaginable blaze of colors and fascinating aromas. Besides gastronomic dishes, here you can find exquisite fabrics, clothes, shoes and numerous accessories. Since 2016, the floating market has hosted an annual festival on its territory.
