Many people believe that traveling by train, when through a window you can gaze upon fields, forests and rivers, is one of the most romantic travel options. In close spaces, people become friendlier. They all become united by one goal which is to get to the destination. In the vast country of China, the railway is a very important way to travel both between cities and within the city center.
The Chinese respect this type of transport more than any other peoples. In Shenyang, there is even a Museum of Steam Locomotives. Judging by the number of Chinese people who outnumber the tourists from other countries, you can understand how much they appreciate steam locomotives.
The Shenyang Railway Museum is the largest museum in the country. In its huge building, there are 15 old locomotives. Nine of them are Chinese-made, while the rest are assembled in other countries. There are models from America, Germany, Japan, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, England, and the Soviet Union. Some of them are almost a hundred years old.
In the museum, you feel like a child who was given a big railway. You can walk between the locomotives with your eyes wide open, peer into every detail, imagine how passengers in a hurry jumped into the last train car, how the driver heated the stove with coal, how the conductor scolded stowaways… It is a very interesting place.
At first, it was a large hangar where locomotives were kept. Later, other exhibits were brought there: photographs, archival documents, uniforms of conductors and drivers. In the museum, you can not only see the iron horses, but you can also learn about the 120-year history of the Chinese railway in detail.
Previously, after studying the century-old steam locomotives you could enjoy a walk through the botanical garden. This is not possible now. The Railway Museum was placed twice in the center of various botanical gardens. Currently, the museum is located on Shandan Street in the Sujiatun district.
