Today it is difficult to surprise a tourist with a huge aquarium as there are similar places in almost every city of the world. However, if you travel to Qingdao, you should definitely visit its aquarium. There are several reasons for this.
First of all, the Qingdao Aquarium is the first project of this kind implemented in China. It was built in 1932 and still remains one of the largest aquariums in the country.
Secondly, the unusual architecture of this complex worth special attention. The complex is not of a form of a seashell or of the high-tech style which are common today. Its main building has the shape of a Chinese fortress and is considered to be one of the most beautiful ancient buildings in the city.
Thirdly, there is an incredible number of marine and oceanic inhabitants. Visitors can not get confused in all this variety, because the aquarium is divided into several thematic zones: Underwater World, Museum of Marine Animals, Freshwater, Exhibition of Marine Life, and the Palace of Jellyfish.
Each part of the aquarium is connected to others by beautiful tunnels that are made of durable glass. The longest of them reaches 86 meters. Therefore, just walking through the labyrinths of the aquarium you can quite realistically imagine that you are on the seafloor among incredibly beautiful fish of different colors and sizes. A flock of stingrays will «fly» over your head. A huge shark will appear in front of you, just below which you will see the bright tiny fish that look like lights between the corals.
Lectures on the animals of the underwater world are regularly held in special halls. In the Palace of Jellyfish, lecturers tell about these unusual creatures and explain how one species differs from another. In addition, one of the largest collections of corals, algae, and various shells is presented there. The total number of exhibits exceeds 20,000 species.
The aquarium is so big that you can spend the whole day there. However, it will not be enough if you plan to see the beauty of the underwater world in all its details.
