Chongqing is a relatively young city, so curious and adventurous tourists will quickly get bored with its endless skyscrapers of glass and concrete, restaurants, and boutiques. The surroundings of the city are much more interesting.
All good people go to heaven after death and get a better life in a beautiful garden. All bad people who did evil go to Fengdu Island near Chongqing. It's best to follow their example and see how things are going in hell.
City-island Fengdu is on a mountain with a huge Buddha depicted on its slope. It looks as if the rock has devoured the figure; only a few parts stick out. Unlike Chongqing, the city boasts a rich history – over two thousand years old. Somewhere in the 3rd century A.D., two local officials decided to escape from routine affairs into the mountains and devote themselves to the teachings of the Tao. It's believed, as time passed and the public servants turned into hermits, they became immortal. If you say their names together, Yin and Wang, you get «King of Hell». This is how Mount Fengdu became famous as the world of the dead. This is where Taoist followers began to be buried. Almost all the slopes of the mountain are covered in graves. Thus, Fengdu became almost the largest necropolis in China. This becomes even more mysterious when you learn that after the construction of the dam, the city was flooded and went underwater. Every temple, park, or monastery has its own name connected with the afterlife: «Last Look at the House Tower», «Ghost Pass».
When you come here, you want to do bad things so that you can find yourself in such a beautiful place after death. The incredible beauty of nature is surrounded by thick forests, colorful temples with carved roofs, cute bridges, and parks. After such a walk it is no longer scary to pass through the gates and go to hell, even the tridactyl blue demons are no longer frightening.
