The Kantajew Temple is perfectly fit with the surrounding landscape. The gentle blue sky and bright green plants harmoniously combine with the red-brown color of the temple.

This is the case when a fleeting, external tour is not enough. The closer you get, the more you can see. The beauty of the temple may seem to be a hallucination, but it is real! All three floors of the building, from the base to the dome, including every millimeter, are decorated with incredible ornament. Each element is unique but is continuous with the other, creating one big picture, one whole story. The sophistication of every detail will definitely capture your imagination. There are scenes from the Ramayana, depictions of the feats of the god Krishna, social scenes from the 18th century, and even erotic restrained scenes presented on the walls of the temple. Looking at these scenes makes you want to go deeper into unraveling, reading, watching every story as a fascinating plot of a movie or book.

The Kantajew Temple is a Hindu temple built in the 18th century to worship the god Krishna. It is considered a true masterpiece of terracotta architecture in Bangladesh. The temple is constructed as a pyramid – each of the subsequent three floors is smaller than the previous one. Initially, each floor was topped with beautiful spires, but, unfortunately, the earthquake completely destroyed them.

Besides contemplation of figurative and floral patterns, you can also see the figure of the deity in the arched apertures. To get a closer look at it, you have to climb a meter-high pedestal and pass-through several corridors. Also, there is a dark narrow staircase at the end of the corridors that leads to the second and third floors. Attention, try not to hang out near the richly decorated columns at the entrance. The most interesting things are waiting for you inside.

The temple is in excellent condition. It feels like the building has been through a lot, but all the main elements of the temple, particularly the figures on the facade and the columns, look perfect. It’s open to the public, the entrance is free of charge. However, locals will be grateful for small donations to their deities.
