There are not so many museums in Seychelles. Tourists come here for a beach vacation and a quiet life filled with contentment and gentle sun. But sometimes, walking along the turquoise water, you want to learn more about local traditions and history. And that is where the Praslin Museum comes in.
The Praslin Museum is the only private museum in Seychelles that combines several directions at once. This is a museum, in the usual sense, and a small exhibition centre, and a place for exciting lectures and masterclasses, as well as a petting zoo and a nice cafe.
Traditional musical instruments, ancient artifacts, such as dishes, clothing, household items, and furniture are presented here in the basic exhibition. You should pay special attention to the hall with photos where you can find views of the island and images of locals as they looked in the past.
You can get to know the national cuisine in the Praslin Museum. Since they prepare exclusively traditional dishes in the cafe at the Museum. These dishes are based on old recipes that were specially collected among locals. Therefore, some treats may seem simple and not as beautiful as in fine restaurants, but they are guaranteed to be delicious and with a national flavor. Besides, if you want, you can participate in the preparation of dishes, learn the recipe, and get new culinary skills.
Also, there is a small apothecary garden on the territory of the Museum. All the traditional regional medicinal plants are presented in this garden. Thanks to this, the Praslin Museum participates in scientific research and development. And for tourists, the garden is attractive because it is incredibly beautiful, as it contains bright and unusual flowers.
Children love the Praslin Museum very much because they can play with animals here. Guests are offered to feed domesticated bats and pigeons or play with huge turtles under the careful supervision of the Museum staff.
