There is a wide variety of entertainment in a big city like Campo Grande: beautiful parks, noisy bars, interesting exhibition areas. One of the most popular tourist destinations is the MARCO Contemporary Art Museum of Mato Grosso do Sul. Its striking expositions attract both adults and children.
The Contemporary Art Museum is located in a vast green area of the Parque das Nações Indígenas. The total area of the cultural object is 4 thousand square meters. There are five exhibition halls: one with a permanent exhibition from its collection and four for temporary exhibitions, which make up its annual program. Besides, there is an art education department that trains local schoolchildren and students. This department has three rooms as well as an equipped studio for engraving. There are also lectures and seminars for visitors: the audience simultaneously accommodates 105 listeners. And a special library on the art of plastic art contains materials for teaching this skill.
The museum was founded in 1991, but then it was in a different place. The current building was specially built for the exhibition complex in 2002. The author of the project was architect Manuel de Oliveira.
The current collection of the Contemporary Art Museum covers the modern period from 1979 and has about 1,600 works in various art forms. Of course, particular focus is placed on local artists from the state of Mato Grosso do Sul: on their works in the direction of plastic art in particular.
The museum is open daily. Its opening hours: from Monday to Friday - from 7.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m., on weekends and holidays - from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. By the way, the entrance is free of charge for everyone. According to tourists, it takes on average one hour to inspect the exhibition space.
