There is some prejudice that public beaches have a big number of people and dirt. Devonshire Bay completely breaks the rules. The only public beach on the south coast of Devonshire attracts with its beauty, cleanliness, and variety of activities.
In the bay territory, the park, there is not only a beach, but also the beautiful ruined Fort Devonshire Bay. It was built in the 1750s by the British and served for city protection from the enemies. You can walk through it, imagine how great the fortification was, and learn the history of the city. You can also find small pools for children. It is forbidden to swim in some of them, but you can admire tiny crabs, shrimps, and bright fish.
Devonshire Bay is a perfect place to enjoy fresh fish. Right here, near the ocean, fishermen sell their catch. It is easy to find them: next to each shop there are large tablets. On them, you can see which fish people can buy. Locals are very sociable: they are happy to tell which fish is better to choose and how to cook it. They help you to cut it and advise where to buy the best spices.
Many residents of Devonshire love this bay because they can come for a picnic, swim in the ocean, and see a beautiful sunset. Guests of the city are not an exception. In good weather, tourists come here from different hotels with equipped beaches. They are looking for unity with nature, national color, and the opportunity to feel like true residents of Bermuda, not the guests.
