Unusual places

There is one very unusual, but interesting attraction in Leeds. It consists of many small ones that are scattered throughout the city. It is beautiful, funny, sometimes mysterious, and also has a beneficial effect on the figure.

Walking through the streets of Leeds, here and there you can see small plinths with owls. Sometimes these nocturnal predators sit on specially designated perches, sometimes on the roofs of houses, and sometimes they settle on the windows. It's all about owls.

The owl has been the symbol of Leeds since the 17th century. It all started with the coat of arms, which was invented by Sir John Savile. Since then, the city has been inhabited by owls.

They're everywhere. The locals have come up with a way to turn this cute feature of the city into an attractive attraction. In 2009, the Owl Trail opened in Leeds. Moreover, a special map where the secret places of night birds are marked was created. At first, there were 10 of them. Then more places were found and the list was increased to 25. But locals and tourists still find more and more owls.

Walking around Leeds, it is better to keep an eye out and not to blink, otherwise, the bird may flap its wide wings and get off the grid.

The trail starts at Millennium Square. There are as many as four stone gilded statues. They are relatively young. They appeared in 1933 and 2000. The next ones are hiding at Leeds Town Hall and the City Museum. Then turn onto Cookridge Street and follow it past the Central Library and market until you reach the main bridge in Leeds. This is the end of the Owl Trail. The bridge bears the same coat of arms of the city of Leeds. You can repeat this fascinating route in the opposite direction. In case you missed something!

The owl route allows you to get to know the city better, improve your attentiveness, and train your legs! If you plan a walk on a warm sunny day, it will be even more pleasant to enjoy the Owl Trail.
