Not far from Barcelona, there is Tibidabo Hill that can be seen from practically any point in the city. It’s the tallest hill in the Collserola mountain range. This hill constantly attracts locals and tourists to its peak by offering several interesting landmarks at once, the brightest one being an amusement park of the same name.
“Tibidabo” covers about 7 hectares, and it is Spain's longest-running amusement park. Its construction began in 1899, and only 6 years later, its guests could enjoy the first rides. Today, the oldest operating ride is “Witches and Wizards Den” (Magatzem de les Bruixes i els Bruixots). It opened in 1915 and underwent several renovations. The passengers of this attraction can go on a breathtaking journey in an open booth at an impressive height.
Another retro-ride, “Avió”, has been flying over Tibidabo since 1928. It’s a mini-replica of the first aircraft to fly from Madrid to Barcelona, it was built in the park one year after the event.
Thrill-seekers will enjoy a drop tower “the Frog” (La Granota) and an extreme swing “Hurricane” (Hurakan), a roller coaster and other modern rides.
Tibidabo has its own panoramic area that offers splendid views of the Mediterranean Sea, the city and its surroundings. However, to get the most out of the panoramic area and make this moment truly unforgettable, you should head to the Ferris wheel. An unhurried ride in its open booth will give you even more vivid memories.
Moreover, there are a few more curious attractions on Tibidabo. Don’t miss your chance to visit a viewing platform on the Torre de Collserola tower, the neo-Gothic Temple of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, built on the highest point of the hill, and one of the oldest operating observatories in the world, the Fabra Observatory.
