The world's best art collection dedicated to man's four-legged friends, dogs, can be seen at the American Museum of the Dog, located in the middle of the picturesque Queeny Park in St. Louis, Missouri. The most extensive cat museum, displaying works by such great masters as Pablo Picasso and Rembrandt, is in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. But it is impossible to find at least one museum in the world outside the town of Myshkin, which has dedicated its amazing collections to a small inconspicuous rodent and a brave hero of many fairy tales and cartoons – an ordinary mouse. Suffice it to recall the "mouse-norushka" from Russian fairy tales, Jerry Mouse from the world-famous Tom and Jerry cartoon film, or Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the characters of Walt Disney that are known not only to children but also to adults from all over the world.
The first and only Mouse Museum on earth was founded in 1991 within the Myshkin Ethnographic Museum, a giant open-air museum in the town of Myshkin. Although it is not a state museum, and its collections are replenished thanks to the enthusiasm of the townspeople, this famous museum only benefits from this. Its exhibits are as different as the people who have put into them not only their effort but also their hearts. The very first exhibits from France, Poland, and Germany were donated to the museum by the Russian journalist Ilya Medov, who had come up with the idea of creating this unique museum. Today, the collections include English and American, Indian, Japanese, and even Singaporean mice, as well as beautiful representatives of more than Russian 50 cities. After getting acquainted with the amazing exhibits of the museum, do not forget to peep into the office of the mouse king to buy a memorable ticket as the Mouse Museum visitor, certified by the royal seal.
