The fairy-tale Northern country of Norway is full of ancient legends that are associated with such mythical characters as mountain and forest trolls. So, many natural attractions have relevant names. For example, «Troll Throne» and «Troll Ladder». The most popular tourist attraction the history of which is closely connected with the legend of the petrified troll is the rock called «Troll Tongue». It is one of the most dangerous and at the same time desirable places in the world with a fascinating scenic view of the Norwegian fjords and the mountain lake Ringedalsvatnet.

According to the legend, a funny troll lived in those lands. He liked to take risks and often made rash actions: he dived into the lake, then jumped into the gorge and was not afraid of anything. However, he had one cherished desire – to perform his dangerous stunts in the daytime. Unfortunately, the trolls could not afford it because the daylight turned these fabulous creatures to stone in no time. But his desire was so strong that one day the merry troll could not stand it and stretched out the tip of his tongue to the sun. He immediately turned to stone and became the main decoration of modern Norway. Since then a 10-meter-high fragment of rock hangs over the crystal-clear waters of the lake surrounded by ancient quaint mountains.

The «tongue» itself is more than ten thousand years old. When «Troll Tongue» appeared on the cover of National Geographic, this place became famous all over the world. The view is particularly stunning at sunrise and sunset. This view attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists who come to Norway and climb to a height of about 1200 meters. Eleven kilometers of the walking route is worth every minute spent as the place is fantastic. Besides, colorful photos taken there will remind travelers of their amazing adventures in magical Norway.
