Kėdainiai city park, with a long and rich history, is an eye candy where you can have a rest for your soul.
Kėdainiai Park was founded on the site where the Kėdainiai estate was once located. Almost nothing is known about those historical events, except that the estate was large and surrounded by a strong fence.
On the territory of the park, there is a minaret, that, by the way, is one of the two minarets located on the territory of Lithuania. In an inspection of the minaret, found in the archival documents of the early twentieth century, it is stated that there were two buildings next to it: one with a domed roof; the other with a straight line. So it is possible to conclude that there was a mosque next to the minaret, where the Muslims came to pray. There are also believes that all these buildings were built in the Turkish style. However, some historians do not agree with such opinions. They believe that the minaret was built separately, and there were never mosques near it.
Today, only the gate, minaret, and two cellars remain of the entire estate. But all of them are in fairly good condition. The height of the minaret is 25 meters. There is a needle tower on its top. Directly below it, there is a balcony that can be reached by an internal staircase. Two memorial plaques are placed on the walls of the building: one of them praises the palace in the Ottoman language, and the second one quotes from the Koran.
By the way, records, found in ancient documents, confirmed that the minaret is eclectic. Its structure was dominated by red brick, which allowed historians to conclude that it was painted white. This means that it was not originally built as it can be seen today.
In addition to the minaret and cellars, there are many walking and cycling paths, fountains, benches and picnic areas throughout the park. It is pleasant not only to look at the historical value of the city represented by a minaret but also just to relax, walking on a summer day in the fresh air.
