The Regional Museum is located in the building of the former Jonava post station on the railway that connected Saint Petersburg and Warsaw in the 19th century. Important mail passed through and high-ranking officials traveled through this station. In particular, the station building had a recreation room for members of the royal family and officials. In the 20th century, the post office was converted into a Telegraph station, and then completely closed.

The museum in this building appeared only after the exhibition "Old Jonava", organized in one of the schools. It was dedicated to the creation of the city and historically important moments. Then more than 500 exhibits were presented. After the exhibition, it was decided to place the museum within the former post office.

Today, the museum's doors are open from Monday to Friday. There are ancient archeological finds that were discovered on the site of Jonava. This is not only clothing and tableware but also various iron and pottery products, such as combs for pots (I saw them for the first time in my life and now I know that the pots had combs!) and various tiles with intricate patterns.

In general, the number of different exhibitions and exhibits presented at them is huge: some documents were miraculously preserved after the First and Second World Wars, ancient maps that indicate Jonava when it was still a small settlement, and much more. Especially impressive is the room with old coins, many of which are perfectly preserved and look like new, although they are several centuries old.

The Jonava Regional Museum displays paintings by local artists. Moreover, they depict not only ancient views of the city and its life, but also just flowers and still lifes. Most often, of course, there are icons. It is amazing how organically they fit into the neighboring expositions that tell about the Soviet past.
