A unique monument of high and late Gothic architecture is included in the UNESCO world heritage list along with the historical center of Kutná Hora. The church was founded in 1388. According to the plans of the architects of the Middle Ages, the magnificent structure of the cathedral of St. Barbara was planned to be built twice as long. Although the cathedral was not built according to the original plan, it still surprises with its appearance.

It is easy to see it from different points of the city. The pointed forms of the cathedral seem to be a true crown over the "Silver City".

Kutná Hora was the richest city in the Czech Kingdom during its medieval heyday. Silver was mined there, and the influential Prague pennies were minted. The miners who inhabited the city needed a temple dedicated to their patroness. So it was decided to build Barbara as a mining church. But, as often happens with great projects, the construction was not completed until the turn of the XIX-XX centuries.

St. Barbara's Cathedral in Kutná Hora is the second-largest Gothic Church in the Czech Republic after St. Vitus Cathedral in Prague.

The shape of the temple was formed under the influence of French cathedrals. Residents of Kutná Hora planned to surpass the Cistercian monastery in the neighboring village of Sedlec in size and decoration. Initially, the temple should be three naves. However, the project changed: two more naves were added to Barbara. The start of construction was directed by the workshop of Petr Parléř, who worked on the great Prague temple. True maestros, Matěj Rejsek and Benedikt Rieth, took part in the construction.

Today, on the inner balconies of the temple there is an exhibition that introduces the development of temple construction and external decorations that are invisible at first sight.
