The castle, that is attractive in every sense, is located half an hour's drive from Karlovy Vary.

Just 15 km from the famous resort, you can immerse yourself in the stone history that locket has been inscribed in for 800 years. The castle and the town got its name by the river Ohře. The river curves around the Peninsula like a bent arm. This natural feature can be seen from every bridge in town.

Loket was a childhood castle for the future Czech king and Roman Emperor Charles IV. The very young king's son Wenceslaus (such was his birth name) was confined within these walls by his own father. John of Luxembourg, a father of Wenceslaus, suspected his wife Elishka of provocations and a desire to give the crown to the king's son. The imprisonment left an imprint on the character of the future Emperor Charles IV. For the rest of his life, he preferred private and dark rooms.

And today every guest can walk through the dark Gothic corridors, dungeons, and, of course, the aristocratic chambers of Loket castle. And feel the connection of centuries.

For many centuries, the castle was called "the key to the Czech Kingdom". And it wasn't just the Earthmen who wanted to get their hands on this land. Loket keeps legends about the meteorite from the XIV century. Part of the meteorite can be seen today in the Castle Museum. It weighed at least 106 kg. Over time, it became lighter, because it was divided into parts and sent to museums. What was not done with the "space guest"! For example, it was hidden in a well during The Thirty Years' War, so that the Swedes would not steal it and take it with them. Then it was taken out, hidden again, and its name was changed.

Many people came to the meteorite for inspiration. Thus, the German poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe celebrated his 74th birthday in Loket.

The true story of how the meteorite got behind the fortress walls has not been preserved. But it definitely brought some kind of cosmic trick to the castle. The building has been very important for many centuries and is still attractive today. You go in for an hour and leave in half a day. You don't leave this place until you know all its secrets and legends.

And there are plenty of stories here. So, according to legend, during one of his adult visits to Loket, Karel IV went hunting in the surrounding forests. There he discovered hot springs, which later became known as the Spa of Karlovy Vary.
