Not far from Brno there is a place that is significant for the history of several countries at once. Memorial "the Peace Mound" is a reminder of the victory of Napoleon at Austerlitz in December 1805. Today on the map of the Czech Republic, this place should be searched for with the name Slavkov u Brna. And on the way from Brno to Slavkov, there is a small village of Praсe, where the memorial mound is located. This is a stone pyramid at an elevated point near the battlefield. The beginning of the battle was watched from here by the Austrian Emperor Franz II and the Russian Emperor Alexander I. Here, on the Moravian field, Napoleon's army challenged the combined Austro-Russian forces. Despite the superiority of the coalition forces, Bonaparte managed to win.
In the restored Museum building adjacent to the memorial, you can see the modern style of embodiment and unusual format of the multimedia exhibition "the Battle of the three emperors".
The Museum, opened in 2010, is a space with an unconventional solution: the pavilion is partially hidden under an earthen embankment. Its appearance symbolically and in simplified form indicates the main points of the battlefield.
The exhibition presents the battle of Austerlitz from different perspectives: contemporaries, chroniclers, soldiers and diplomats, historians, writers, artists, and filmmakers. The unique history of the Mound itself, two centuries of battle history, memorable events, including the reconstruction of battle scenes-all this is combined in the exhibition.
The Museum is open all year round. You can take a regular city bus from Brno to the village of Prace, where you need to walk about 1.2 km from the stop. A self-driving trip from Brno to the mound of the world will take about half an hour.
Besides, every year you can travel through time and go back to 1805. On the anniversary of the battle of Austerlitz, there are reenactments of the battle, tours of the Slavkov u Brna castle with the French Emperor, and a commemorative liturgy.
