Decent service with a modest budget has always been considered the main advantage of the countries of the Balkan Peninsula. And only the perfect combination of educational excursions with a beach holiday could challenge this. Today, Croatia offers many combined tours of its cities, but it is worth visiting the small town of Zaprešić! A green oasis surrounded by two rivers is an ideal place for romantic walks, as well as for exploring the main sights of the city of the Palace complex. It includes six historical castles and mansions from the UNESCO world heritage list.
A special place in this complex belongs to the Palace. The classic palace was built at the beginning of the 18th century for the second wife of Napoleon, Marie-Louise, Duchess of Parma. The building in the Baroque style has three open wings with cylindrical corner towers, and its facade, decorated with sculptural busts. All these elements made it look like the famous French palaces.
The interior was no less attractive. The rooms intended for the owners of the castle were richly decorated. The banisters on the stairs and some images on the walls have preserved their original appearance, as well as the modest basement rooms where the servants usually lived. The most historical value is represented by well-preserved interior elements. The centerpiece is an old carved Cabinet.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the Palace was donated to the community Sisters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul and still belongs to it. At this time, the castle building was used for the needs of elderly and sick nurses, as well as for patients of the hospital where they served. It soon became a home for the homeless and destitute, and the community lost its former significance. The castle was badly destroyed.
After the recognition of Croatia, the Palace was restored. And now it is not only a national but also an international cultural heritage monument. Today, the center for meditation and spiritual development operates within its walls.
