The long-awaited winter has arrived and the first snow has fallen, all thoughts in your head are of snowy slopes and a glass of hot mulled wine by the crackling dry branches of the fireplace. The skis are waxed, the suitcases are packed, so you only have to choose a destination and book a ticket. These stories are usually followed by tales of luxury ski resorts in the Alpine mountains somewhere in France or Switzerland. You can go the usual way without looking for adventure, or you can go a little further and get into a real fairy tale without leaving Europe.
The most popular and largest ski resort of the Principality of Andorra, Grau Roig near the town of El Pas de la Casa, can surprise even the most demanding and spoiled with first-class pistes traveler. It is located on the border with France and is considered the highest in the Pyrenees.
The first resort of the principality was opened in 1957. It has excellent infrastructure. Its tracks are designed for any age and level of training: from gentle slopes designed for beginners to dangerous black tracks designed for professional athletes and extreme sports enthusiasts. There is a zone for slalom and nighttime skiing in the lower part. There are 128 trails with a total length of 210 km. Thanks to the large snow areas of more than 600 hectares, even the fastest skiing is not dangerous. For snowboard enthusiasts, the resort has not only a specially equipped border cross-area but also a half-pipe with a length of about 40 m, as well as its ski lift.
But the most important feature of the ski resort of Grau Roig is its unusual snow, which remains dry, icy, and incredibly slippery even at above-zero temperatures.
The pleasure of skiing on the magnificent slopes would be incomplete without the vibrant nightlife of this amazing place. Numerous bars and nightclubs are open until dawn, and a huge selection of music tracks will please absolutely every guest.
