One of these interesting places is located on the island of St. Thomas in the city of Charlotte Amalie. There is a pirate castle named Blackbeard.
Each island in the Caribbean is related to the pirate story. On the island of St. Thomas, Edward Teach lived. He was worldwide known as a pirate Blackbeard in the 18th century. Sailors on merchant ships prayed when they saw the sails of the ship “Queen Anne's Revenge” in the distance. He did not like to use force. Most often this was not required. Fear and shudder were caused by his look and a terrible smirk, hidden under a black beard. It looked like a raven's wing. Surprisingly, there is no evidence that Edward killed people or robbed ships.
In the center of Charlotte Amalie, there is a small turret known as Blackbeard’s Castle. You can see the whole city and harbor from the tower. According to legend, Edward Teach watched his enemies from there. Come inside, climb the spiral staircase and look at the city as Blackbeard looked at it.
By the way, he still watches the citizens and tourists. But now from the bottom. The bronze statue of a pirate is located there. The actors tell curious travelers stories of the Blackbeard life.
Blackbeard used this tower as an observation point. But he did not construct it. The first stone was put there by the Danes in 1679. People planned to use it as a watchtower. That time, it was called Skytsborg, which means “Sky Tower”.
The inhabitants of Charlotte Amalie Town wanted to have one more pirate. They invented one more character – the Bluebeard pirate. That sea robber also has a tower, located next to the observation point of Blackbeard.
The tower was built by the Danes as well. The pirate used it as an observation deck. Today, the tower and estate next to it are a popular hotel and restaurant. The view of the Charlotte Amalie Harbor is perfect.
