You need to celebrate the arrival on the beautiful island of Grenada in the Caribbean. It is better to do with a glass of the strongest local rum. Try to come to the place where this “drink of the gods” is made, as the inhabitants of Grenada call it. The oldest rum factory, River Antoine Estate on the Antoine River, is waiting for you. 

It is as burning as the sands of local white beaches when the sun is at its zenith. It is as heady as the warm waters of the Caribbean. And its taste shows the traditions and cultural customs of the locals. 

When you arrive at the factory, a desire to try something here may disappear. The building is very old, and it is clearly seen. Rum has been producing here since 1785.

The process of rum production stays unchanged. In the dense forests of Grenada, on the Antoine River, people have still making rum. They meet you with a smile. A nice guide will lead you through a small area of the factory, which is already a historical monument. 

You can see a lot of cane. This is the future raw material for rum. There is also a river with a water wheel. It sets all the mechanisms important for the production in motion. Do you feel the smell? Yes, go further in the hall with huge copper boilers. There, cane juice is brewed, emitting a sweet smell.

The tour is ended. It lasts only an hour because the factory is not large. And then, the best part begins - tasting. The portion is small, as well as the factory, but it is enough. Take a glass, feel the aroma ... Though, during the tasting, people tell you how to drink it. Rum is very strong, but it is drinking so easily. It has an original, sweet taste. 

Rum is so good that after the first sip you imagine how you treat your friends and colleagues. However, you can only tell them about a taste or your emotions. 

The factory is very small and produces rum for locals. The lot consists of 138-150 pieces. The stuff works without rest, but all the bottles are 100% bought by the residents of Grenada. Nothing is left for export. But it is enough for manufacturers.

And tourists come here to drink a glass at a tasting after the tour and try rum in a local tavern.
