Probably the country's most striking and known tourist sight is the American Samoa National Park, which was established in 1988.

A beautiful natural park occupies the territory of three islands: Tutuila, Tau, and Ofu, where the relict rainforests have been preserved.  The others were demolished. Also, the National Park of American Samoa includes several marine areas and a nature reserve of turtles.

There, in the park, you can see the most beautiful landscapes of coastlines, reefs, and rainforests.

On the island of Tau, the most interesting place is Mount Lata, which is standing out over the flat landscape. And on the coast of Ofu Island are based the most accessible coral reefs, which can be seen even by a beginner diver. 

The tourists mostly want to visit the hiking paths, where they can admire the pristine nature and meet a large number of exotic animals. For example, the National Park is a home for more than 20 different species of seabirds and several species of bats. Three of them live only in the National Park of American Samoa.

The world of plants is also very interesting. It is hard to imagine that there are about 500 species of ferns. Such diversity is represented only there. 

The most interesting adventure for the guests of the National Park of American Samoa is the Samoan Way – a walk through the village, recreating the life and traditions of the indigenous people.

There are several rules, abidance of which helps to understand and feel the unusual atmosphere. For example, on Sunday it is forbidden to make noise, run and even swim. On any day of the week, people cannot eat or drink walking along this traditional village.

Entering any house, before starting a conversation, eating, or drinking, you need to sit down and cross your legs. Before visiting the island, the guides inform the tourists about these unusual and strict rules to respect the ordinary way of life.

Residents of the village, located in the National Park of American Samoa, cherish their traditions and expect the same from the guests. For example, every night, it is the time for the prayer. That time is it better to stop and wait until the inhabitants finish their ritual. If they offer you try a local national drink made from pepper root, show respect to the traditions: spill few drops on the ground, then raise the cup, thank for the treat and drink.
