For many centuries Turkey has continued to convince the whole world of how gentle their sea waves are, how picturesque their sand beaches are, and how friendly the local people are. Although there are just a few people who know where the Turks themselves prefer to rest, it is far from the noisy and crowded cities. Even the most hospitable owner will not tell you about the wild lakes holiday spots, as these real natural pears, he keeps for himself, for his friends, and for a large friendly family.
There are many beautiful lakes in Turkey. Just two of them are located in Selcuk district – the wonderful lakes almost untouched by humans. Here, in the kingdom of nature, there are own laws and policies, where the man is meant to be a guest, the honored guest. And if Lake Catal is small and mostly attracts ornithologists looking for white herons, then Lake Gebekirse is an ideal place for a weekend.
Lake Gebekirse with an area of more than 800 hectares was declared a state-protected zone back in 2006. Its water is salty as the lake is fed by the groundwater sea channels so that even inexperienced adults and children can swim in its cool, unlike the sea, water.
Even though bird lovers prefer Lake Chatala, there are many pieces of birds on Gebekirse as well. Lake Gebekirse is home to European turtle doves and common pochards, which are in danger of extinction, and to a rare ferruginous duck. It is also home to Eurasian coots, little egrets, shovelers, great cormorants, and even dalmatian pelicans.
The fields around the lake are also settled with birds. There are such tiny species as northern wheatears and chickadees and less common lesser grey shrikes. If you go hunting with a camera to the lake for a weekend, the holiday will be not only pleasant but also informative.
