As is often the case, there are no worthy-of-note attractions in the city, but the suburbs are bursting with remarkable and fascinating locations. A small Malaysian city called Kuching has a lot to show in its urban area and at a few kilometers distance. One of the attractions of Kuching is small monkeys.
You might say that you have seen them in Vietnam, Cambodia, and other Asian countries. However, here in Bako National Park, they are exceptional. Firstly, a vital remark for tourists: those monkeys are calm; they won’t come swooping at you to take away your camera or bag of nuts. They peacefully comb out the coats of their kins and almost ignore tourists. Except perhaps, some macaques can attack.
Secondly, monkeys, and there are three species of them in the park, live in a fantastic place where mangroves smoothly blend into the tropical jungle and vice versa. The forests and mountains are incredibly beautiful. Even though the park is properly upgraded, and there are well-equipped trails everywhere, you feel like in a real jungle. Bako National Park is a genuine natural treasure. Rare proboscis monkeys jump over tree branches. These monkeys have a very protruded nose and a huge belly. There are only 150 of them in the park.
Most of the animals can be seen at dawn or just before twilight. Most of them hide during the daytime, but you can stumble upon a snake or a boar. There are also otters in the park. They start building their dams early in the morning.
Birds singing nonstop, frogs croaking, huge spiders that tangle in your hair, and snakes lurking in the foliage – the park is a perfect opportunity to get acquainted with the Malaysian fauna in person.
Bako Park is an excellent place to tickle your nerves, but if you stick to the guide and follow the trail, you will enjoy a great escapade and, feeling like Indiana Jones, return to your hotel.
