Usually, the main park in the Japanese cities is an old garden created several ages ago by some famous or wealthy person. In this sense, Sagamihara is not an exception. The central, the most beautiful, famous and the biggest park there is the Sagamihara Prefectural Park which was made for the Ninth International Garden Expo in 1992. Initially, it was just a big exhibition platform. But now, thanks to the improvement and development of various interesting activities inside it, the Sagamihara Prefectural Park is the favorite place of recreation for locals and tourists.
The main unique feature of that park is that it has more than 118 species of flowers that are fragrant and bloom all year round. There are fascinating flowers and buds even in winter.
Besides, the territory of the park includes many objects attractive to both children and adults.
For example, Minazuki Garden is a unique space where festivals and theatrical performances are organized. Everything there is surrounded by flowers which symbolize four seasons of a year.
The fountains' area is the favorite place for games of the young visitors of the park, as during hot time everyone has an opportunity to swim in the water there.
There is also the biggest greenhouse where you can see the growth of common and exotic plants.
Probably the most interesting place of the Sagamihara Prefectural Park is the observatory of forest trees. This is a fairy-tale space that looks like a book with pictures. There you can observe different types of trees, study them, watch how fast they grow with the help of special screens. Colorful playgrounds for the youngest visitors are settled around that observatory.
A big greenhouse with tropical plants was opened in the park not long ago. It is also an extraordinary project. For maintaining the needed temperature in big rooms of the greenhouse, the warming system is used thanks to an incineration plant located not far from the park. So, the park does not only make that place beautiful, but it also uses «green» technologies for the sake of not polluting the environment.
