The history of this beautiful and important place for wildlife conservation began in 1974, when the territory, where modern Bhaval National Park is located, became a protected area. It was forbidden to carry out any type of work except scientific. It was not allowed to build even the smallest objects. And the territory was completely closed to people.
The nature reserve received almost 5,000 hectares of land, which immediately became the venue for the work of scientists. They started studying the local nature and preserving its diversity. Moreover, an important project to restore the number of trees was launched at that time. Over the previous decades, about 600 square kilometers of forest were destroyed. It caused huge damage to wildlife: unique plant species were almost lost. There was a great reduction of populations of birds and animals that needed lots of green spaces.
However, any initiatives require financial investments. A large amount of planned work and research needed to be funded. Then the management of the reserve decided to create National Park on this territory. So that this park could be visited by locals and tourists without any harm to animals and plants.
It took several years to prepare the necessary infrastructure and create routes. Finally, Bhawal National Park opened its doors to visitors in 1982.
It is now one of the most visited national parks in Bangladesh. Firstly, it has convenient transport accessibility: you can come here for one day from almost any city in the country. Secondly, there are ideal conditions for observing wild nature, its beauty and diversity. Thirdly, on certain days, you can attend lectures organized by researchers and learn about their work. And, of course, the most important thing is the vast territory of Bhawal National Park, where animals and people can walk very close without harming each other.
