Lankaran has its architectural treasure - the nearly fairy-tale house of Mirakhmad khan. It not only impresses with its appearance but also has a beautiful legend that the locals like to tell.
In 1912, there was a beauty contest in Tbilisi, the winner of which was the wife of Mirakhmad khan. The loving husband decided to build a house as a gift to his beautiful wife and in memory of her victory. However, his wife was not so simple. She wanted the new house to be as luxurious as it had ever been in Lankaran. Besides, she wanted to see the whole city at a glance from her room, which should be located on the highest floor. The project was not easy. But are there any obstacles to the realization of the dream of the woman you love?
Mirakhmad khan promised to fulfill her wish and kept his word by building an unusual house, which, indeed, had no rival.
The architectural design of the house used both fashionable decorative elements and techniques characteristic of the national Azerbaijanian creativity. Therefore, the palace looks more like a carved oriental casket than a European mansion of a wealthy owner. Also, it is difficult to believe that the architect of the project was not a local genius, but a specially invited French engineer who managed to combine fashion and tradition to create such an exquisite masterpiece.
When Mirakhmad ordered a new house to the architect, he asked to make it so that no one could stare at his beautiful wife when she enjoyed the view of the city from her room on the top floor. This is how an exquisite white balcony, glazed with stained-glass windows, appeared in a small palace. The hostess of the house could stand on it and admire the view and, at the same time, be invisible to passers-by.
