Not far from the modern city of Ganja, there are the picturesque ruins of an ancient settlement, where originally, until the XVII century, there was a fortress of Ganja, which later grew into a large city.
Now the territory of the archaeological complex has a huge number of fragments of ancient city walls and towers. There are still traces of three bridges connecting that connected different parts of the ancient city.
If you carefully examine the layout of the old fortress, you can see that the buildings here were built very close to each other, and between them were incredibly narrow and tangled streets, some of which could not even be passed by a small cart.
Now, unfortunately, it is difficult to imagine how beautiful the buildings in this fortress were. After all, ancient architects paid attention not only to the reliability of houses and strategically important buildings but also to the aesthetic component. The predominant shades of the glaze that covered the exterior brick walls of the houses were blue and dark green. Therefore, the city stood out against the general background of the landscape. According to historians, this was an extension of the sky on earth.
Today, there is an open-air museum on the territory of the settlement. Some buildings and complexes are gradually restored, returning their original appearance, while others, on the contrary, are "preserved" so that you can see the brickwork, decoration, and the reliability of the work of ancient builders.
While walking through the nooks of the tangled streets, here and there you can find various shards of crockery, and fragments of bricks covered with colored glaze. This is something that has not yet been explored by archaeologists. It is also something that many tourists take with them as a souvenir to remember a visit to the ancient city. Surprisingly, such actions are not prohibited. So if you want to take a piece of ancient civilization with you, you can do it.
