A multi-colored rainbow after the rain, so beloved since childhood, or the fascinating polar lights with its unique beauty, the play of light and shadows, refraction and reflection of sun and moon rays. These amazing natural phenomena have always interested people. Even today, tourists are traveling to find miracles and vivid memories.

One of such colorful and spectacular performances of nature is the essential sight of the Sal island. Every day, the blue eye of the Atlantic Ocean lagoon responds to the rays of the sun with its friendly gaze, and every year hundreds of thousands of tourists come to these picturesque lands to see this natural wonder.

A small bay called Buracona is located 5 kilometers away from the fishing village of Palmeira. It is part of the natural landscape of Buracona-Ragona, protected by the state of Cape Verde. In the rock formed by the lava of a sleeping volcano, the waters of the ocean created a natural pool. But its depths there is another exit to the ocean. Owing to it, every day at noon, a delightful optical illusions theater starts its performance. When the rays of the sun enter the lagoon at a right angle, they are reflecting from its bottom and return to the surface with a magical azure light, like an all-seeing blue eye. That is why it is called Buracona, translated from Spanish as the blue eye. All the surface of the water is illuminating with sparkling light. From a bird's eye view, it looks like an immense sapphire hidden by fabulous giants in the heart of the volcano at the very bottom of the ocean.

You can not only admire the beautiful waters of Buracona from the side. Swimming and diving in its secret grottoes and labyrinths are also rather popular. However, you should not do this on windy days, when the majestic ocean blurs the boundaries of the lagoon and breaks waves against its rocks.
